Citrus fruit setting 2024 –

From late May to June, fruit begins to form on all citrus trees.
As flowering lasts several weeks for most varieties, fruit set is also gradual.

On May 25, the Navelina orange trees were still in full bloom, both in the field and in the store.
Here we see the beginning of fruit formation, with swelling at the base of the pistil.
Citrus can form fruits without pollination (parthenocarpy), which in this case will have no seeds. When seeds are available, however, they are usually hybrids.
Only some of the flowers will turn into fruit, usually about 10%. Flowering is very abundant and the plant could not support such a quantity of fruit.
On June 4, a small Navelina orange with the pistil still attached. It will detach itself in a few days.
June 13, a small Caracara orange with the pistil already dry, ready to fall off.
On June 5, a pink Pomelo with fruit at various stages.
On June 4, a Meyer lemon tree with clusters of fruit. The Meyer lemon tree always flowers abundantly, several times a year. In this case, too many fruits have formed on the same branch. The tree usually purges itself of excess fruit a little later in the season.
On June 4, the Satsuma (Owari) mandarin trees continue to flower, with some fruit already formed.
On June 5, Yuzu is just beginning to bloom. Of all the varieties, it is the latest to wake up.
Then the Yuzu go rather quickly, on June 10, they have both flowers and fruit.
