How to plant a citrus tree. Air-Pot special.

On this site you’ll find all the information you need on how to plant a citrus tree: https://alpagrumi.ch/plantation/ with when, where and how. In this article we’d like to show our customers how to take a citrus tree out of its air-pot and plant it in the ground, minimizing stress to the roots.

Orange tree Navelina in a 12,5 liter airpot, 30cm diameter.
To plant this orange tree while keeping the rootball whole, lay the plant still in its pot near the prepared hole.
We then remove the two green screws (they are sometimes blue).
When the screws are removed, the pot wall may widen slightly to allow removal of the green base.
Close and hold the side of the jar after removing the base.
Place the tree with its bottomless airpot in the prepared hole. Depth of 30/33 centimetres.
Note: the hole is initially deeper and wider, 50x50x50cm to be able to add fertilizer, see https://alpagrumi.ch/plantation/
Remove the air-pot wall.
The soil must be just level to cover the roots.
Water just after planting and possibly the next day as well.
Then cover with dry mulch, at least 20cm thick.

To sum up, it’s important to first remove the bottom of the air-pot by laying it down, then use it to deposit the rootball with integrity at the bottom of the hole. Happy planting to all!
