New varieties Autumn 2024

In September we restock the store with sold-out varieties such as Kabosu, Corsican Fragola, US119 and Ichang Lemon.
But there are also a few new, rare and interesting species.

Shiranui

Shiranui is a Japanese Tangor, a complex hybrid of orange and mandarin trees. The fruit has a typical pear shape and melting flesh. It is very sweet when ripe, but the harvest is late and therefore at risk in the event of severe frost in February. To be reserved for protected locations.

Kumquat Nameiwa

Nameiwa is another hybrid of two selected varieties: Nagami (oval fruit) and Meiwa (round fruit). It makes many small, round kumquats, to be eaten whole. They ripen slowly in winter and can therefore suffer from frost outdoors. The tree is very resistant to cold, but the fruit less so.

Mandarin Robinson

An excellent, juicy, precocious mandarin. The result of a complex hybridization of Clementine and Tangor (Orange x Mandarin).
The tree is among the most cold-resistant of mandarin trees (-13).

Satsuma Silverhill

The most sought-after of the Satsumas.
An American variety, a spontaneous mutation of Satsuma Owari, isolated in Alabama as early as 1930.
Juicier, more resistant to cold, more Satsuma.

Haruka

A very sweet fruit, with complex aromas like a citrus bouquet. A Japanese rarity, a hybrid created by chance in the garden of an enthusiast. Now grown locally in southern Japan.
