Description

The bergamot is probably the result of natural hybridization in southern Italy between a bitter orange tree and a lime.
The Fantastico variety is the most widespread in Calabria, the only region where bergamot is grown commercially.
Bergamot has long been and still is used in perfume production, and is characterized by its intense aromas in the pulp, juice and, above all, in the essential oils extracted from the zest.

The Fantastico bergamot can be picked green as early as November or yellow in January, remaining juicy and acidic until very ripe.

The tree is vigorous and productive, not very prone to alternation (no low production every other year).
With the right pruning, it can be kept in a pot or in a temperature-controlled greenhouse.

Note:
Cold hardiness is not sufficient for outdoor planting in Switzerland.
