From rye to grain
Since mid-July, the rye bales have been drying well. It’s time to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Over 6 weeks of slow drying under cover. All traces of green have disappeared.
We’ll carry them around and work on them, three boots at a time.
A large 500-litre tank is used to detach the grain.
Basic technique. Tap and the grain comes off.
On the one hand, the grain.
The straw on the other side.
A few hours’ work to fill a crate with grain.
About 20 liters of grain.
But it’s not yet clean. Remove all mixed straw strands. The simplest is the fan.
The grain falls and the straw flies away.
Demonstration. It’s effective, but it still takes several passes to clean properly.
After 4 passes, there are only rye grains left.
For flour, the grain has to be passed through this machine. But that’s not for today.
