Thomasville is an American-made citrangequat, a complex hybrid of kumquat.
The result is a bushy tree, very resistant to the cold and with exceptional fruits.
These are large kumquats (50gr +) delicious to eat with the skin, thin and sweet.
The fruit can remain on the tree for over a year, is initially yellow and acidic, and can be squeezed for its lemon-like juice.
Then they turn orange and become soft and sweet in early summer.
Thomasville is often covered with both fruit and flowers in the spring.
Be careful because these fruits are slow maturing and late and must survive an entire winter on the plant.
But fruits can freeze already at -3 degrees C.
To avoid this and enjoy the fruit, it may be necessary to keep this plant in a pot and shelter it in winter.
The adult size is quite modest and allows for this, but don’t place it in a heated area.
The plant must remain dormant throughout the winter. Regular temperatures above 18 degrees C should be avoided to prevent vegetative awakening.
The tree is moderately vigorous, thornless and untidy growing. It can be pruned green in summer.
